Key responsibilities:
• Oversees financial reporting function and serves as primary liaison with external auditors
• Develops and implements policies and procedures related to sound financial management and safeguarding of Company assets
• Responsible for Treasury Management function, including development of new banking and financial institution relationships, creation of investment plan for cash reserves and implementation and management of corporate line of credit
• Monitors non-Fund partnership cash flow and sets distribution targets
• Serves as a trustee for Company’s benefits plans and is a member of the Profit Sharing Plan and 401(k) plan’s investment committee
• Collaborates with Human Resources to structure compensation and benefits plans in a cost effective manner for the organization; provides support and guidance on HR matters
• Determines financial impact to Fund operating costs of potential corporate initiatives
• Involvement with all acquisitions and dispositions as related to closing statement review and approval, entity formation and tax deferred exchange structuring
• Oversees Accounting and Financial Reporting, Operations, Office space planning and construction and Information Technology; indirect reporting line with Financial Planning and Analysis group
• Lead executive for identification and implementation of technology initiatives across the Company
• Together with PMO, identifies and implements recommendations for process improvements across the Company
• Oversees insurance program and claims management for all lines of coverage except environmental
• Together with outside tax consultants and attorneys, develops and implements strategies to minimize taxable income; creates structures and scenarios for tax-deferred exchanges (forward and reverse)
• Ensures compliance with all regulatory filing requirements which includes but is not limited to tax return preparation and filing, business licensing and entity maintenance; interacts with investors’ tax consultants as needed
• Responsible for selecting and maintaining relationship with property tax appeal counsel and oversees all pending appeal actions
• Develops annual strategic plan for the companies corporate entities and monitors actual performance to budget throughout year
• Contributes to creation of investor reporting and materials used to update Board of Directors
• Monitors Company’s cash flow and recommends options to fund shortfalls or invest excess cash reserves; works with CEO to raise investor financing as needed
• Monitors financial performance of Fund portfolio and third party managed properties; reviews annual business plans and budgets and reports significant changes from Annual Plan
• Performs review of annual Common Area Maintenance billings
• Monitors financial matters for the business and communicates critical information to the CEO; assists in the development of strategic initiatives and implements Board-approved initiatives within areas of responsibility
• Works with intermediaries, including law firms, investment bankers, brokers, insurance agents, on company initiatives, as needed
• Reports financial challenges to CEO as needed
• Ensures financial reporting requirements related to mortgage loans are met timely and monitors compliance with loan covenants
• Assists in evaluation of potential investment and operating partners, including but not limited to financial institutions, capital partners, equity investors, and property management companies
• Serves as liaison to Founder’s outside advisors on family office matters; oversees family office bookkeeping
• Provides financial oversight and expertise on ground-up development projects
• Oversees construction loan draws and cost accounting for projects under construction
Qualifications:
• 10-15 years progressive experience in commercial real estate and management experience
• Strong management and supervisory skills with ability to mentor
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, communication and processing skills
• BS in Finance or Accounting
• Commercial real estate; retail real estate knowledge and experience preferred
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and experience with Argus
• Ability to multi-task and set priorities in a fast-paced environment
