Overview

The Investment Accounting and Reporting team at a growing Life, Annuities, and Benefits company is seeking a leader to oversee data governance, data quality, and controls and reconciliation and process improvements and automation across our Investment Accounting and Reporting ecosystem. This role will focus on ensuring the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and control of data used in GAAP, Statutory, and management reporting for our diversified investment portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in financial data governance, investment accounting processes, and automation technologies. Superior communication skills, a strong controls mindset, and the ability to collaborate across Finance, Investments, and our third-party data aggregator are essential.

The Data Oversight Manager will own and maintain the data governance framework supporting Investment Accounting and Reporting, oversee key data quality controls, streamline and automate data workflows, and ensure all reporting data is audit-ready and well-documented. This person will work closely with the Investment Accounting and Reporting team, External Financial Reporting, IT/Data, Internal Audit, and business stakeholders to uphold data standards, manage risks, and support strategic initiatives.

Job Function

  • Oversee data governance for Investment Accounting and Reporting, including data standards, lineage, critical data elements, and business definitions
  • Own data quality monitoring processes, metrics, and exception management; implement systematic controls and automated validations
  • Oversee end‑to‑end reconciliation processes across investment accounting systems, source materials, and the general ledger, ensuring data completeness, accuracy, timely resolution of breaks, and strong documentation to support GAAP, Statutory, and management reporting
  • Manage workflows and governance surrounding Power BI, Alteryx, SharePoint, and Cadency, including documentation, version control, and compliance
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data used in GAAP and Statutory reporting (including Blue Book and Green Book schedules), management dashboards, and executive reporting
  • Lead efforts to automate data transformations, reconciliations, and report production
  • Maintain and enhance documentation, including process narratives, control descriptions, data dictionaries, and data flow diagrams
  • Partner with Reporting, Accounting Policy, Actuarial, Investments, and IT/Data teams
  • Coordinate responses to internal/external audit and regulatory inquiries
  • Sponsor continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development for direct reports
  • Review analytics and dashboards for quality and consistency
  • Lead ad hoc data governance projects and system enhancements

Job Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in investment accounting, financial data governance, controllership, or reporting
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and Statutory accounting for investments
  • Demonstrated experience in data governance, data quality controls, lineage documentation, or financial system administration
  • Experience implementing or managing automation and reporting tools (Power BI, Alteryx, Snowflake) preferred
  • Familiarity with Clearwater a plus
  • Strong analytical, technical, and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Effective collaborator across Finance, Investments, Actuarial, IT/Data teams as well as third-party vendors
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field required
  • CPA, CIA, CISA, CFA, MBA or FRM) preferred
