John Schmit started working at Marcus & Associates in June of 1995, directly after graduating from NYU. The intensive training that he received working side by side with Ellen Marcus in the beginning of his career has allowed him to evolve into a full-service, multi-industry finance and accounting recruiting expert. John has partnered with e-commerce and software startups, leading banking conglomerates, edtech industry leaders, trend-setting media and advertising firms, biotech/medical technology pioneers, top tier consultancies, Fortune 500 manufacturing conglomerates and most recently private equity sponsors and pe-owned portfolio companies across all industries. John has successfully completed over 800 searches during his tenure at Marcus & Associates and made partner in 2006.

John likes to fill a myriad of different types of financial positions, the more complex and technical, the better. Whether he’s retained to fill a CFO for SVP position, or building out the Accounting team for a long-term client, his passion for process remains key. The secret sauce is open communications, relentless determination and creativity.

John lives in Astoria, NY with his fabulous wife, cunning son, precocious daughter and loving puppy. When he’s not helping his clients with key hiring mandates, John can usually be found in the woods or on the lake in the Poconos.
